Under $500 and you can clear it in six weeks?
Any Pay in 4 works. Prefer PayPal (no late fees) if it's at checkout; Afterpay for in-store or fashion/beauty brands; avoid Zip's per-order fee.
Want to see the item before paying anything?
Klarna's Pay in 30 is the only one that does this.
$1,000+ and you want months to repay?
Affirm (up to ~$20,000, 3–60 months, no late fees) or Afterpay Pay Monthly ($400–$4,000) at the APR you're offered.
Want BNPL to build your credit?
Only Affirm reports routinely. Otherwise a personal loan or a credit-builder product does the job.
The store takes no BNPL at all?
Zip's virtual Visa or Afterpay's one-time card online; Afterpay Plus Card in-store.
When none of them fit
BNPL is built for one purchase at one store. When the need is bigger — several purchases, a repair bill, or a total above your limits — a personal loan of $200–$5,000 repaid over 3–36 months is usually cheaper and simpler than stacking plans. Checking your rate uses a soft credit pull.
Frequently asked questions
Which BNPL app has no late fees?
Affirm and PayPal Pay in 4 charge no late fees. Afterpay (up to $8), Klarna (up to $7) and Zip ($5–$10 by state) do.
Which BNPL app is best for bad credit?
All five use a soft check and approve per purchase, so none has a minimum score. Start with small orders on Afterpay, Klarna or PayPal and build history.
Can I use more than one BNPL app?
Yes — they're separate accounts. The risk is losing track of overlapping six-week schedules; keep it to two or three open plans at most.
