Three ways to pay with Afterpay
"Does this store take Afterpay?" has three possible answers — and only the first is a plain yes.
Native checkout
The store integrated Afterpay. You see the badge at checkout and the plan before you confirm.
App one-time card
Any Visa-accepting site. The app issues a single-use card for your cart total — this is how Amazon works.
In-store tap
Digital Afterpay Card in Apple Pay or Google Pay at participating retailers.
Store lists change weekly. Finder counted 2,170 US brands offering Afterpay on Nov 3, 2026. If a brand isn't listed here, check the Afterpay app's directory — it's the source of truth. *Marked brands are usually reached through the app's one-time card or at partner retailers.

Fashion & footwear
Afterpay's home turf. Almost every major apparel and footwear brand integrates it directly online; most also accept the Afterpay Card in-store.

Beauty & wellness
Sephora and Ulta accept Afterpay online and in-store. Many DTC beauty brands offer it at checkout.

Home & furniture
Furniture orders often exceed Pay in 4 limits — this is where Pay Monthly (where offered) or a personal loan comes in.

Electronics & tech
Best Buy and Samsung integrate Afterpay. Apple and Microsoft products are usually bought via the app's one-time card or at partner retailers.

Department & big-box
Target, Walmart, Macy's and Nordstrom work online and in-store. Warehouse clubs accept the Afterpay Card in-store where Apple/Google Pay is taken, not at online checkout.

Marketplaces
Amazon isn't an Afterpay partner — you shop it through the Afterpay app's single-use card. Availability on marketplaces varies by seller.

Kids, sports & gifts
Seasonal gift shopping is Afterpay's busiest period; Adobe measured $20B of US online holiday spend on BNPL in 2025.

Travel, tickets & experiences
Mostly via the Afterpay app's one-time card. Some ticket marketplaces offer Afterpay natively at checkout.
Where Afterpay doesn't work (at 0%)
- Groceries and gas — Kroger, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Costco (online) and fuel stations don't offer Afterpay at checkout.
- Food delivery — DoorDash, Uber Eats and Instacart don't accept it.
- Bills, rent, subscriptions, gift cards, cash — not purchasable with Afterpay.
New in 2026: eligible Cash App Card holders can split groceries, gas and utilities with Afterpay on Cash App Card — six weekly payments with a flat 7.5% finance fee (Afterpay's example: $240 costs $258, a 65% APR). Useful in a pinch, but not the 0% product this page describes.
Using Afterpay at a store that doesn't list it
Two routes. Online, the Afterpay app's one-time card works at any US site that accepts Visa, within your limit. In person, the Afterpay Plus Card subscription extends tap-to-pay to most places that take Apple Pay or Google Pay — for a monthly fee, so it only pays off for frequent in-store users.
If the purchase is simply bigger than Afterpay will approve, a personal loan of $200–$5,000 puts cash in your bank account and works at any store, Afterpay partner or not.
Frequently asked questions
Does Amazon accept Afterpay?
Not at Amazon's own checkout. You shop Amazon through the Afterpay app, which issues a one-time virtual card for your cart total; enter it as a regular card at Amazon.
Does Walmart or Target accept Afterpay?
Yes — both online and in-store via the Afterpay Card in Apple Pay or Google Pay.
Can I use Afterpay for groceries?
Not at 0%. Grocery chains don't offer Afterpay Pay in 4 at checkout. Eligible Cash App Card holders can use Afterpay on Cash App Card for groceries, but it carries a 7.5% finance fee.
Why does a store show Afterpay but decline my order?
Each order is approved individually. Common reasons: the cart exceeds your available-to-spend, you have an overdue payment, or the store set a per-order cap.
