How to use Afterpay on Amazon

Amazon isn't an Afterpay partner — the workaround is a one-time card from the Afterpay app. Here's how to do it without a decline.

Can you use Afterpay on Amazon?

Yes — but not at Amazon's checkout. Amazon has never integrated Afterpay. Instead, you shop Amazon through the Afterpay app, which issues a single-use virtual card for your cart total. You enter that card at Amazon like any Visa, and Afterpay splits it into four payments.

Step by step

  1. Build your Amazon cart first

Note the exact total including tax and shipping — the card is issued for a specific amount.

  2. Open the Afterpay app and find Amazon

Search the store directory. Amazon appears as an app-only store.

  3. Enter the amount and create the card

Afterpay checks your available-to-spend, shows the four payments, and generates a virtual card number, expiry and CVV.

  4. Pay at Amazon with the virtual card

Add it as a new payment method and place the order. The first installment is charged now; the rest every two weeks.

Limits and gotchas

  • Amount must match. If Amazon charges less (an item ships separately or is cancelled), the unused part of the card is released and your plan adjusts. If it charges more, the card declines — create it for the exact total.
  • Your available-to-spend applies. A new account may not be approved for a $600 cart.
  • Subscriptions and Subscribe & Save won't work with a single-use card.
  • Gift cards and some digital items are excluded by Afterpay's merchant rules.

Returns and refunds

Return to Amazon as normal. Amazon refunds the virtual card; Afterpay receives it and reduces your remaining installments starting from the last one, refunding any overpayment to your original payment method. Allow a few extra business days compared with a regular card refund.

When Amazon's own options are better

Amazon offers its own installment plans on selected items (often 0% over 5 or 12 months for Prime members) and accepts Affirm at checkout for purchases over $50, with 0–36% APR and no late fees. For a $1,000+ item, compare those first. For small everyday orders, Afterpay's one-time card is still the simplest 0% route.

Above Afterpay's limit, a personal loan of $200–$5,000 covers the whole order without a card dance.

Frequently asked questions

Does Amazon accept Afterpay directly?

No. Amazon has not integrated Afterpay at checkout. You use the Afterpay app's single-use virtual card instead.

Is there a fee to use Afterpay on Amazon?

No — it's the standard Pay in 4 plan: 0% interest, late fee up to $8 only if you miss a payment by 10+ days.

Can I use Afterpay for Prime or subscriptions?

No. Single-use cards can't be charged repeatedly, so subscriptions and Subscribe & Save don't work.
